GM plant closes

End of the Line? Future unwritten as Spring Hill plant goes idle

By WILLIAM BOWERS and SKYLER SWISHER/ staff writers

A notice at the GM Welcome Center in Spring Hill tells visitors that plant tours have been canceled as above hangs a banner of the Chevy Traverse and above that a banner from the Saturn days with a quote from Mike Bennett that begins with “Partnership and commitment… .” The plant shuts down Wednesday with no commitment for the future from GM. After two decades, the GM Spring Hill assembly plant will shut its doors, leaving thousands without jobs during the worst economic times since the Great Depression.

The plant, which will produce its final vehicle Wednesday, will shut down a majority of its operations.

With fewer than 24 hours before the last Chevrolet Traverse rolls off the line, the mood around the plant mirrored that of a graduating class, only without the air of celebration.

Mike Minor, who puts the finishing touches on vehicles, said everyone is talking about where they are going and what will happen now.

“A lot of people are uprooting their families,” he said. “They are talking about packing, where they are going and how they are going to sell their house.”

Minor arrived in 1991 to be a part of “A New Kind of Car Company,” but will leave Dec. 7 in search of a new kind of job.

“We moved here thinking we would could retire from this plant,” he said. “We’ve been here 20 years working together and now everyone is going their separate ways.”

I would say our county is a prime candidate for a miracle

welcome!

Welcome to our little corner of Mt Pleasant TN!  This site just started as a place to show some out of state family and folks some pictures of our horses. They weren’t even the best pictures, just something kind of spur of the moment. Then some wonderful neighbors made us our farm sign you see above. They asked what we wanted on it and I mentioned putting the website address on it .
I had no idea so many people would see it!
But it seems to get noticed quite often so I figured I better start putting something useful on it! For right now there are still the pictures of some of our horses, a few ads (to pay for the upkeep of the site), and some farm pictures. I plan to add some of the articles I write and some other family news from time to time.
As you can tell we are a Christian family with lots of children. We believe children are a gift from the Lord and you can call me greedy but I want everything Jesus has for me. I will answer one often asked question. “Are they all yours?” Yep, every one of them! Jim and I have been married 21 years! One momma, one Daddy and lots of youngins! And yes we will gladly take more if the Lord chooses to bless us.
Jim is also locally known as “jumpin Jim”, for his reputation for lively preaching in the Maury County Jail. It is funny how far that name reaches, we met someone who was going to bible school in TX once who said he was from this area and one of the teachers responded, “oh yeah, I know a guy from there, they call him jumpin Jim”. We think the Lord has a sense of humor. But however He chooses to use us is just fine with us.
Another thing folks are so curious about is our youngest daughter’s name. Mercy. No, I did not cry out, “Lord have mercy”, while in labor, and then name her such. I will try to share the whole story and put it as a link on the left. I will tell you though it is very heart touching and proves the goodness of God, so get your hanky ready.
So what else does everyone want to know about the Raine family? I will do my best to share as the Lord allows me time. Fell free to email us any time.

Silverbug – sold

Silverbug is a nearly 3 yr old old dappled gelding. He is very friendly and loves people. He is good natured and gets along with everyone. He is also very sweet. Not as flashy as some of his spotted brothers but definitely makes up for it in warm personality. He will do anything you ask of him. He is approximately 38 inches tall. If I didn’t have more ponies than children we would definitely keep him, but since we have more than enough we will share :) . He is way too nice to not be enjoyed by a loving child or two. He has been started under saddle and ridden by a child but is still young so needs some more work but he is very willing and has a great attitude. Additional training is available. He would make the cutest ever pasture pet, or could be ridden by a small child or taught to pull a cart. I have other ponies available also. We are asking $450 for Silverbug.

Doodlebug is an adorable 3 and 1/2 yr old gelding. He is 38 inches which is about 9 and a half hands. He has been raised with children and has never been manhandled. He is broke to ride and will let you do just about anything with him, but he has not been ridden lately. He is a very easy keeper, and has great feet. He is furrier than the pictures and has a beautiful winter coat. He looks like a fat furry cute butterball. He is not as social as some of his herd buddies but he is prettier than most. We will hold him until Christmas eve day with a non refundable $100 deposit going towards purchase. Additional training is available. He would make the cutest ever pasture pal, or could be ridden by a small child or taught to pull a cart. I have other ponies available also. We are asking $450 for Doodlebug. Doodlebug has been sold.
